In We Come With A Very Cool Solution.

Greenshields Brewery & Pub, a popular restaurant in downtown Raleigh, found itself in hot water last summer when the brewery’s 10-year old chiller stopped cold one day.

Without a chiller, the brewery couldn’t operate. The chiller was critical to cooling during the fermenting process. Greenshields also utilized it to cool the beer to proper-serving temperature.

Owner Gary Greenshields was able to buy some time by locating an under-capacity rental chiller. Still, what he really needed was a new process chiller --FAST! Unfortunately, not just any “garden variety” chiller would do...given the inherent challenges of his 70-year old building and its location in downtown’s Old City Market.

Explains Greenshields: “We had to find a new chiller that not only would meet our capacity needs, but would fit into a very tight space on the roof. What’s more, the electrical load could not exceed the capacity of existing wiring, panels and breakers–we’re in an old area of the city subject to brown outs and power spikes.”

Luckily, during the time the temporary unit was being installed, long time customer and RL Kunz sales representative, Charles Frazelle happened to be at the pub. “Realizing what was going on, I told him we represented a company that offered industrial process chillers.”

And so, with the help of RL Kunz, Greenshields was able to install a true industrial process dual compressor unit (the original unit was single compressor) with many efficiency features not found in a typical HVAC chiller. “What we were able to give him was a custom product at a very competitive price delivered on a quick-ship schedule,” explains Charles.

Adds Greenshields. “Charles grasped the concept of what we needed perfectly. As a result, I now have a chiller that solves all my problems and works much better than my previous unit! It has variable levels of cooling, plus built-in safeguards that keep it working at optimum levels even when electrical loads are uneven, to prevent unnecessary wear and tear. I couldn’t be more pleased.”

To all this we say, “How cool is that?”
